An international ecotourism provider was unsure how its Costa Rican operations were performing relative to best practice in the industry. While the country as a whole was experiencing rapid growth in the ecotourism sector, the client's operations seemed to be underperforming.
MSI consultants executed a comprehensive financial, marketing, and human resource analyses that included the completion of an activity based cost assessment, the implementation of new cost accounting practices, and the design and implementation of a new marketing strategy.
MSI's analysis revealed the root causes of the office's sluggish growth. To begin, costs had not been properly allocated and as a result, the client was not charging sufficiently high-enough rates to cover their costs. More importantly, the client's minimal marketing efforts were failing to engage international ecotourists. These insights and resulting modifications to the client's accounting methods and marketing efforts led to increase in net margins of nearly 10% in the first year and a nearly 200% increase in revenue year over year.
